EMBRUNGrand-Orgue de la Cathédrale 3 claviers et pédalier – 27 jeux
3 Keyboards and pedalboard – 27 stops Built in 1464, it was certainly a gift of the "dauphin" Louis, who will be Louis XI. This gift was a somptuous instrument, with bright colours: red, blue, red, orange and black and decorated with gilded sculptures. One can imagine that the organ was a real jewel put on its "nid d'hirondelle" which was also coloured and gilded. In 1750, the Swiss organbuilder Samson Scherrer adds in front of the top of the case another case of 18th style and replace the positive of 1635 by an other one positive just like the upper case. The main elements down from the Gothic case are still present behind the 18th one, what allowed to make a reconstruction of the original gothic case (see drawing) |
